Avebury Wedding Photography - Heléna and Martin

Heléna and Martin's intimate celebration at Avebury stone circle was one of the most unique and special weddings I've photographed. Living nearby, I'd always hoped to capture a ceremony at this ancient, historic site, and this represented my first booking there.

I was excited but also a little anxious – having booked via email, I hadn't met Heléna and Martin before and wasn't sure what to expect. Would they opt for formal wedding attire or something more spiritual? We arranged to meet at the Red Lion car park, and I was delighted to discover they'd chosen beautiful formal wear.

While I chatted with Heléna and her mum, Martin and their celebrant headed to the stones to choose the perfect ceremony location. They settled on a spot beside an impressive monolith, and the celebrant encouraged the seven guests to help scatter flower petals and herbs. Including me, the celebrant, and the happy couple, we made an intimate party of just eleven people.

As it turned out, Heléna and Martin had been legally married the day before but had chosen to travel to Avebury for this special ceremony because the location meant so much to them. I found that incredibly endearing – the way they'd chosen to celebrate their wedding in their own unique way, weaving in elements that mattered most.

The ceremony was beautiful, consisting of emotional readings, music, the exchanging of vows and rings, and then a hand-fasting with ribbons presented by each guest. Afterwards, additional gifts were attached to these ribbons to make it even more personal.

Heléna and Martin didn't stop smiling the entire time! The weather was wonderfully kind with bright sunshine throughout, and one of the most touching (and amusing) moments was hearing groups of passing strangers call out congratulations as they walked by. It made everything feel so very special.

After a few formal group photos, I waved them off to continue their celebrations – but not before grabbing some fun shots of them in their sunglasses with the Red Lion in the background.
