Midge Ure at Bath Forum - May 2026

If you’re new around here then you might not be aware that I tend to photograph Midge Ure whenever he heads out on tour. I’ve been lucky enough to join Midge at a number of venues, including covering his 70th birthday concert at the almighty Royal Albert Hall.

Midge’s health hasn’t been the greatest recently. In fact, I was sad to see that he was required to postpone some international dates at the end of last year. But, he’s back, with a relatively big tour ahead of him and I was lucky enough to attend the very first show in Bath last week.

As with previous tours, I was granted an AAA pass (Access All Areas) to document the entire performance. I never take priority access such as this for granted - especially during the first night of a new tour - and so I am always grateful when it is offered.

Bath Forum can be quite a tricky venue to shoot. I love it for concerts but I do find it rather challenging when it comes to photography. For seated performances such as this, there really isn’t a great way to get close to the stage without getting in the way of the audience. Consequently I tend to find myself shooting more or less from the side of the stage (which doesn’t offer the best angles) or crouched down in one of the aisles (which means I can’t see the performers feet and my ever-aging knees don’t allow me to get back up whilst carrying heavy camera equipment so easily)! BUT the freedom I am given to shoot the entire set (rather than the typical three song limit) more than makes up for those restrictions.

As ever it was an amazing night! I had already been given a heads up about some epic lighting due to happen midway through the set. As such, I made sure I was at the back of the auditorium, right in the centre, ready to capture a wide shot of whatever it was that was about to happen. It didn’t disappoint!

I could quite easily fill this entire blog post with epic images from the night but, instead, I’ve included a selection of my photos in the gallery below. In reality, these represent a very small proportion of the images I actually came away with (well, shooting the whole show meant I can away with more than 1000 images!). I’d love to hear what you think.
