How to Choose a Wedding Photographer in Wiltshire if You Hate Being Photographed
If the idea of being in front of a camera on your wedding day makes you feel a bit uncomfortable, you’re really not alone.
I’ll let you in on a little secret - most couples who book me feel the exact same way. In fact, I also hate being photographed so I know exactly how you feel.
As an introvert, I completely understand how awkward it can feel to suddenly be the centre of attention. That pressure to “look natural” often has the opposite effect which is why choosing the right Wiltshire wedding photographer is about so much more than just liking someone’s photos. It’s about how they fit in with your day and how they make you feel.
What Should We Look for in a Wedding Photographer?
If you’re camera-shy, the most important thing to look for is someone whose approach takes the pressure off you.
A candid wedding photographer in Wiltshire will focus on capturing moments as they happen rather than directing or posing you for long periods of time. This means you can spend more of your day enjoying yourselves rather than worrying about where to stand or what to do with your hands.
Look for words like:
relaxed
natural
storytelling
unposed
These are usually good signs that a photographer works in a more gentle and unobtrusive way.
How Can We Feel More Comfortable In Front of the Camera?
The truth is, you don’t need to suddenly become someone who loves being photographed.
A big part of my approach is creating a calm and reassuring presence throughout the day. I blend in where needed, offer gentle guidance when required and never (ever!) make you feel like you’re “performing”.
Most couples tell me they start the day feeling nervous about photos, but quickly forget the camera is even there.
If you feel as though a “trial-run” might be a good idea, think of it as a way to get rid of the nerves before the big day, then you might want to consider a pre-wedding photoshoot. This provides the opportunity to get a little more comfortable in front of the camera before the wedding, try out some gentle poses without an audience and have some fun in the process.
Do We Need Lots of Posed Photos?
Not at all.
For relaxed weddings (and in fact, for the majority of weddings I cover) I usually keep posed photos to a minimum - just a few natural group shots and some couple portraits that feel easy and unforced.
The rest of your gallery is built from real moments. The candid moments of laughter, hugs, happy tears and everything in between.
Why a Storytelling Approach Works So Well
A storytelling approach to wedding photography in Wiltshire allows your day to unfold naturally and without interruption.
Instead of staging moments I simply document what’s already happening. The result is a collection of images that feel honest, emotional and truly reflective of your day. It also means you can focus on what actually matters - spending time with your favourite people.
