What Happens After the Wedding? My Editing and Delivery Process Explained
The day has flown by, the confetti has settled, and your feet (hopefully) have recovered from all of the dancing. So what happens next? As your photographer, my work doesn’t stop once the last photo is taken. In fact, the majority of the work is still ahead of me. I know how excited you are to relive your day through your images but there’s a lot that needs to happen before I can deliver your final gallery. Here’s a little insight into what happens behind the scenes after the wedding is over.
The Back-Up and the Sneak Peeks
Within a few hours of me leaving you on the dance floor (or earlier depending on your package) I download and backup all of of the photos I have taken during your celebration. I then do everything I can to deliver a small collection of sneak peek images to you within 48 hours of your wedding, often sooner. Of course, this can depend on how full my diary is, but getting those first few photos into your hands quickly is a real priority for me. They’re perfect for sharing with loved ones and enjoying while the memories are still fresh.
A Realistic Timeline Just for You
When I deliver your sneak peeks, I’ll also provide a personalised timeline for your full gallery. This is based on how many other weddings and shoots I have in the diary and can fluctuate depending on the time of year. It will also take into account any other commitments like networking events, conferences, or the occasional (and much-needed!) break.
As a general guide, you can expect your final gallery within 6 weeks and often much sooner.
Behind the Scenes: Editing with Care
The editing process often takes longer than you might think. It starts with “culling” whereby I scrutinise all of the photos picking out the very best images to be edited. Each chosen image is edited by me with attention to detail and care. This includes colour calibration, cropping, tweaks to contrast and saturation and perhaps even some more intense edits such as removing unwanted items in the background. I keep your story at the heart of every decision I make during the editing process ensuring your gallery reflects the real moments of your day in my signature vibrant and candid style.
Online Gallery Delivery
Once your gallery is ready, I’ll send it straight to your inbox - there’s no need to wait for the post in this day and age! I currently use a gallery platform called Pic-Time which offers a beautifully presented, easy-to-use gallery experience. You’ll also be pleased to hear that the gallery is fully set-up with a web-shop so your guests can purchase their own prints should they desire to do so. Your gallery will stay online for at least 12 months, giving you plenty of time to view, download, and share.
Speaking of sharing…
You First. Always.
It’s hugely important to me that you are the first to see your wedding photos. These are your memories and I promise never to post or share anything until I know you’ve had the chance to see and enjoy your gallery in your own time.
And while the gallery is shareable, that decision is completely in your hands. I won’t give access to any of your guests unless you have shared the link with them.
The only people I do share the gallery with is your vendors (if I know who they are). This saves you the bother of sending on your gallery after the wedding. Another benefit to this: I am able restrict your gallery so that I share only the relevant images with your vendors - e.g. your cake maker will only be able to view photos of your cake - to ensure that your full gallery remains yours and yours alone.
Prints, USBs & Albums
If your package includes prints or a USB, I’ll post these out to you shortly after your gallery goes live, typically within a week.
For albums and books, the design process only begins after your gallery has been delivered. Once you’ve selected your favourite images, I’ll design a first draft layout for you to review. The turnaround from there depends a little on how quickly we can finalise your design together but I’m here to guide you through it every step of the way.
Your wedding might be over, but the memories are just getting started. And I’ll make sure you receive them in a way that’s thoughtful, personal, and never rushed.
