When Pippa and Josh got in touch to ask whether I would be interested in photographing their wedding which was taking place in a Cinema, my response was, “yes, absolutely”!
I’d known for a while that the Little Theatre in Bath hosted weddings and so I was absolutely thrilled for the opportunity to photograph a ceremony there.
They’d decided not to have any of their morning preparations photographed so I arrived in Bath nice and early ready to capture their their guests congregating prior to their ceremony. It’s such an amazing, unique place to host a wedding and they really go all out. A red carpet is laid out as well as red drapes and a flower arch. And when you scratched the surface, you found even more personal touches - a movie-style poster displayed outside, details of the wedding listed on the “What’s On” board, a huge clapper-board containing the couples names and date of the wedding. The guests even got treated to individual popcorn cartons during the drinks reception.
Unfortunately, the weather was damp to say the least. Umbrellas were plentiful and we were required to amend a number of our plans. Thankfully the venue allowed us to do the confetti run indoors (tricky from a lighting perspective but fun none-the-less) and we needed to adjust the location of the group shots so that everyone was under cover.
During breaks in the showers we were able to venture a little further and at least grab some couples portraits with the buildings of Bath as a backdrop. Then, before too long we were headed out of Bath to Batheaston Village Hall. And a good job too - no sooner had I started my drive across town, the heavens opened!
Pippa, Josh and their families had obviously spent a lot of time decorating the hall and it looked amazing - swathes of handmade bunting, vases of flowers, buckets of drinks, jugs of Pimms and even a tea and toast station!
I busied myself taking lots of photos of all of the guests interacting and even managed to entice a couple of larger groups outside before everyone took their seats ready for the speeches.
Then, would you believe it, the showers cleared and the sun appeared literally a few minutes before I was due to head off. Quickly checking in with Pippa and Josh before I departed, we decided to squeeze in a handful of photos in the gardens (including capturing their personalised Cricket wickets) before I left them to their celebrations
