2023 - The Wedding Round-Up Post

2023 - what a year it has been on the wedding front.

I have once again felt very lucky and privileged to be a part of so many couples special days. On the whole, I would say that 2023 felt a little more “normal” following the topsy-turvy couple of years after Covid but what I’ve come to realise is that every year is different.

This year I have documented everything from small, intimate ceremonies through to large, full day events and what feels like everything in between. It’s one of the things I love most about being a wedding photographer - every celebration is unique and I really enjoy seeing how each couple injects their personalities into their wedding day. It certainly keeps me on my toes from a creative standpoint!

A note on Numbers

I was always going to struggle hitting the same number of weddings as I did during 2022 when I was still photographing Covid postponements. I did also block out 5 weeks so that I could travel to New Zealand so perhaps it’s inevitable that my numbers were down this year. But the truth is, I photographed almost half as many weddings during 2023 than I did during 2022. Of course this does mean that my income was much lower but I actually enjoyed the freedom to dedicate more time to the weddings that I did have in the diary and I have to admit that my stress levels were probably much lower!

A note on Venues

It’s inevitable that I often visit the same venues time and time again. Bowood was my most visited venue this year and one of the weddings I photographed there was even published in a local Wedding Magazine! I love getting to know the staff at a venue when I visit multiple times during the year and, I have to be honest, it really does make my job a little easier when I am so familiar with a venue that I already know the best places to take the photos!

I visited many other favourite venues during the year which I have come to know very well but I was also lucky enough to be asked to shoot at a number of new venues. This has included Lower Rudloe Farm, Limply Stoke Hotel, Widbrook Grange, Eastington Park and The Bath Priory.

It’s great to be able to tick a few additional local venues off the list but it always amazes me that, no matter how many weddings I shoot, I always seem to receive enquiries for venues that I haven’t shot at yet. I have four new venues included in my bookings for 2024 and I can’t wait to visit them and see what photographic opportunities they offer!

2023 in Photos

Anyway, enough waffling! Below you will find a gallery containing a small selection of my favourite images from the year but, as always, you can find all of my recent weddings in the blog archive if you want to see (and read) more.

If you’ve made it to the end then a huge well done! I never really know if others find these posts interesting or not - I write them simply because it makes me happy to reflect back over the past 12 months.

So there you have it - a very brief overview of my year in weddings., I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support this year. Lets see what 2024 holds!
