From the small details to the big picture - how my photography tells the story of your wedding day

When you look back at your wedding photos, you don’t just want to remember how the day looked, you want to relive it! That’s where storytelling photography comes in. A great wedding gallery isn’t just a collection of pretty pictures; it’s a carefully curated story that captures all of the emotion, the moments and every tiny detail that made your day unique.

In order to tell the story of your day, I focus on three essential levels of photography:

The Big Picture – Showcasing the venue, the atmosphere, the surrounding location and the setting of your wedding.

The Middle Ground – Capturing your guests, the interactions and those heartfelt moments as well as the more formal photographs you might have requested.

The Details – Highlighting the little touches that made your day personal and unique.

Here’s why each of these is so important in telling the full story of your wedding day.

The Big Picture: Setting the Scene

Your venue choices are a hugely important part of your day. They are the backdrop to your celebrations and so by capturing wide, sweeping shots of your venue it sets the scene. I am forever taking a step back to capture wider shots of you celebration - whether thats at the start of the day before your guests arrive, during your drinks reception to provide additional content or even during your couples shoot. Sometimes these wide photos end up being my favourite images from the day.

Why it matters:
✔️ Providing context - whether it’s a rustic barn, a grand manor house, or a garden ceremony, these images remind you of the setting you fell in love with.
✔️ Captures the atmosphere - from the way the light changes throughout the day to the way the fairy lights twinkle as evening falls.
✔️ Preserves moments you might miss - your guests arriving and interacting with the surroundings, the grandeur of your ceremony space before anyone takes their seat.

The Middle Ground: The People & The Moments

Your wedding isn’t just about the setting, it’s about the people. The laughter, the hugs, the emotional exchanges, the dance floor chaos - these moments bring your wedding memories to life.

Why it matters:
✔️ Captures authentic emotions - happy tears, joyful hugs, and unfiltered reactions.
✔️ Tells the story of your connections - these are the most important people in your life and so it is important to capture those important interactions.
✔️ Balances candid and formal shots - group portraits are important, but so are the natural, in-between moments.

The Details: The Little Things That Matter

You spent months (maybe years!) planning your wedding, choosing every tiny detail with care so why wouldn’t you want to remember them? From the delicate flowers to the rings exchanged in a quiet moment, the details complete your story.

Why it matters:
✔️ Highlights your personal touches - your bouquet, the table settings, the handwritten vows.
✔️ Brings back the emotions - seeing your wedding rings or the details on your dress instantly transports you back.
✔️ Perfect for storytelling - these close-up shots connect seamlessly with the wider images to paint a full picture.

Why Capturing All Three Levels Is Essential

A wedding isn’t truly complete without the combination of the big picture, the middle ground, and the details - it’s only when all of these three things are viewed together that you can truly relive the story of your day.

When you look back through your photos years from now, I want you to feel your wedding day all over again - to remember the beauty of your venue, the love of your family and friends, and the tiny, meaningful details that made the day uniquely yours.
